Battle recap

The tournament had an interesting format: heroes on monsters were banned, you couldn't duplicate Rare or Special units, and Cathay was banned. First battle of the tournament and I got Lenar with armoured dwarfs, scenario Domination (quarters). Game plan: get into combat as quickly as possible, kill the war machines, fly around the blocks and nibble at the dwarfs. Spells I rolled: - Ethereal (eteryczność) and reserve move - a large template missile - +1 to attacks - ward 5+ I couldn't have rolled better ones. The mage ended up in the Silver Helms unit. Lenar won the roll-off to go first.

Turns timeline

Turn 1

The dwarfs flew up with the gyrocopter and that was the end of their movement :) He started the shooting phase, the bolt thrower decided it wouldn't hit this time (which, as it turned out later, became a habit for it). The gyrocopter killed one Dragon Prince, the cannon two Silver Helms. I considered it a good result, it could have been worse :). In my turn I sent everything forward. Ellyrian Reavers went for the bolt thrower, but as far from the gyro as possible. The center went far forward, hoping to hit the Ironbreakers with the chariot and the Dragon Princes, while the Phoenix would hold back the Warriors. The wizard had the battle of his life: first he put a ward on the general, then ethereal, and finally the large template landed in the middle of the Warriors' block, killing 5.

Turn 2

Dwarfs: The Miners tried to get out to the surface, but got lost somewhere along the way. The dwarfs once again decided to spare my heroes and the Phoenix and focused on shooting the cavalry; another Dragon Prince fell, the bolt thrower missed again, and the dwarf Engineer also decided he wouldn't shoot too well today. Two more Silver Helms fell to the cannon. Elves: Time for the ATTACK! The Silver Helms with the extra attack and a 5+ ward charge the Thunderers, the general in the boat charges the cannon, the Dragon Princes and the second chariot and, horror of horrors, the Phoenix charge the Ironbreakers. In their frenzy the High Elves forgot the plan from the previous turn, the Phoenix was supposed to block the Warriors' block with the general with the shield... The Ellyrians move up on the bolt thrower. The Silver Helms kill 5 Thunderers and run them down off the hill, the general ate the cannon and made a light overrun. In the multiple combat the Phoenix, chariot and Dragon Princes kill TWO Ironbreakers. The Phoenix decided it would fail its break test and flees, but not too far, the rest give ground.

Turn 3

Dwarfs: As it turned out, the Phoenix had a clever plan with that flight, and thanks to it the Warriors' block had no chance of charging into combat, 10 inches outran them. So they only did a tactical turn. The Gyrocopter charges the Phoenix, which keeps fleeing about 15 inches, so its strange incomprehensible plan works. The bolt thrower decided it wouldn't hit again, the Engineer puts a wound on the Phoenix. The Thunderers were eaten. The Ironbreakers kill another Dragon Prince, I lose the combat and the hero falls back, and the Dragon Princes give ground. Elves: The Ellyrians finally caught the bolt thrower, which turned into a tough fight over the next 4 turns of combat; the brave riders luckily held, but only three of them were left after the clash with the mighty machine. In the center the freed chariot charges the gyrocopter, which does a fire & flee. We first had a discussion about whether it could even shoot, unfortunately it could :(, then it fled. We read up on the rules, and after a fire & flee the unit flees one die less, so the chariot eats the gyro. The Dragon Princes lose the combat and the last one saves himself with a tactical retreat, not failing the break test. The Phoenix rallied and the rest of the army starts circling around the dwarfs.

Turn 4

Dwarfs: The Miners are still wandering somewhere underground looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. The Ironbreakers charge the chariot, which, following the example of the Phoenix and the Dragon Princes, decides that retreat is an honourable thing. The general in the boat takes two wounds from the Engineer. Elves: The last Dragon Prince and the chariot rallied, the Silver Helms withdraw behind the hill so as not to get shot by the Engineer. The Dragon Prince hides behind the forest. The chariot, Phoenix and the boat hunt the Ironbreakers.

Turn 5

Unfortunately there are no photos anymore. The Miners finally come out of the slot machine, they emerged at the edge next to the Silver Helms and set up sideways, tempting fate. The bolt thrower finally fell. The elven mage decided to show off again and gave himself a ward and an extra attack. Thus empowered, the Silver Helms hit the Miners in the flank, eating them up in two turns of combat. In the center the circle is getting tighter. I waited until my last turn to hit the Ironbreakers. The Warriors' block next to them is a good scarecrow.

Turn 6

In the middle the dwarf units spin around on their own axis, getting ready to be torn apart by the elves. In the last turn the Phoenix and two chariots hit the Ironbreakers from the rear and flank, and a few finally fell. Break test not passed (shieldwall), so very nice of them. Afterwards I wonder, the Ironbreakers have Stubborn, so didn't they not have to roll the break test? Scenario quarters, and even though the points are halved, I scored 300 points, Lenar 75. Very pleasant battle, thanks!
